Germany Alumnae Holds Scholarship Fundraiser

On March 11, 2023, German Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated held their annual scholarship gala, chaired by Soror Juanita Johnson-Archie, at the Marriot Hotel in Stuttgart, Germany. The theme of this year’s event was Masquerade in Red: Behind the Mask.

As a public organization, the goal was to encourage guests to step from behind the mask to volunteer and support both the military and German local communities.   The night began with Patch Middle School’s violinists entertaining guests in the foyer of the hotel with relaxing melodies. Following the speaker, Saxophonist Sir Waldo Weathers entertained the audience with his renditions of several jazz selections.

The sorority’s very own Honorary Member Colette V. Smith came across the pond and shared some of her challenges and triumphs with the audience and scholarship recipients.  She was both interactive and personable holding the attention of all with life nuggets that young and not so young could benefit.  Her speech was very impactful and inspired all in attendance to preserver through their challenges, to dream big and accomplish goals.  She encouraged everyone to work at “making tomorrow better today.” She was all that and a bag of chips!

Both a silent and live auction were held to continue fundraising toward future scholarships for DoDEA students.  This year, $8,000 was awarded to six DoDEA high school seniors to help further their education. Members of the Divine Nine organizations, Masons, Eastern Stars, and military connected community were in attendance.
