The purpose of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) shall be to foster cooperative actions of its members in dealing with matters of mutual concern. To this end, the NPHC promotes the well-being of its affiliate fraternities and sororities, facilitates the establishment and development of local councils of the NPHC and provides leadership training for its constituents.

Under the NPHC’s “service for life” philosophy, the National Pan-Hellenic Council of The Eastern Shores of Maryland and Virginia (NPHCES) was chartered on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2022.  The Presiding Officer was Soror Donna Jones Anderson, National President of NPHC.  Among the 10 chartering organizations were three chapters representing Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.  From the South Atlantic Region, the Accomack-Northampton Alumnae Chapter, Soror Karen Downing, Chapter President and NPHCES Chaplain and from THE EAST!, the Cambridge Alumnae and Princess Anne Alumnae Chapters of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Sorors Tara L. Newman-Bell and Kimberly Purvis, Chapter Presidents respectively.

The NPHCES Officer Installation Ceremony was also held on Sunday, Feb. 27 and was conducted by Malcolm Whiteside, Jr., President, NPHC of Chicago.  Soror Newman-Bell was installed as the chapter’s Historian and Soror Purvis was installed as the Parliamentarian.
