Philadelphia Alumnae Focuses on Its DEARS

Submitted by Committee Chair: Soror Claire Latta Burris

The Delta Dears of the Philadelphia Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. are Dedicated, Energetic, Active, Respected Sorors that participated in a couple of activities this sorority year designed for them.  Activities for the chapter’s Dears are designed to engage them in activities of their interest that will generate fellowship amongst them and service to the community.

The first activity was a Winterfest Luncheon held on Dec. 14, 2023.   The purpose of this event was to have Dears fellowship with one another and enjoy the Holiday Season.  The Dears luncheon was kicked off with a game of Delta Bingo followed by food and line dancing.   The highlight of the event was Delta Karaoke where sorors showed their singing talents.

Another event held on Feb. 19 was the virtual Chat and Chew in honor of celebrating Black History Month. Sorors entered the virtual platform listening to “She’s a Bad Girl” by singer and songwriter Usher. Sorors engaged in a Black Trivia contest where they were challenged to answer questions about famous African Americans. The Dears also were shown how to make a Delta Mocktail to enjoy for the evening. The Dears also participated in a Delta Dear Stroll, which was full of energy and enjoyment.

The Delta Dears also participated in chapter-wide activities that were adapted to accommodate them in the daylight hours such as “Dine with the Deltas” and viewing the movie “A Color Purple.”

Future Delta Dears activities are completing a service project at AstraZeneca Hope Lodge, which is a facility that offers lodging at no cost for cancer patients being treated in Philadelphia. Taking a bus trip to New Jersey to see a show and a “Spring Fling” to be held in May.

The Delta Dears of the Philadelphia Alumnae Chapter are very active, engaged sorors and consistently look forward to the next activity that is planned for them.
