On the evening of Jan. 13, 2022, Middletown -Delaware- Alumnae Chapter (MAC) in collaboration with Philadelphia Alumnae Chapter (PAC) delivered 411 NEW children’s books to Christiana Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Newark, Delaware. This relief effort contributed $3,694.89 in book donations, more than100 volunteer hours and exceeded the original donation goal by 37%.
Hand in hand (virtually) Sorors Tyheshia Davis, March of Dimes Chair, (MAC), and Tiffany A. Wilson, Charitable Partners Chair, PAC, partnered, collaborated, strategized, and led one March of Dimes Book Drive initiative with their respective two chapters and communities in a manner that extended beyond service areas.
Being in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a scary and uncertain time. Providing families with opportunities to connect with their children through reading is a special gift. NICU babies still love and respond to hearing their parents’ voices. The book donations will help enhance this bonding time while parents aren’t able to hold their little ones.
Dressed in Delta paraphernalia and smiles on Founders Day 2022, Middletown Alumnae Chapter President, Ruth Mathis Tucker, Philadelphia Alumnae Chapter President, Dr. Penny Sparks Nixon, Delaware State Coordinator Tasha Butler, committee leads and members met the Christina Hospital March of Dimes Coordinator with new book donations, candy and an impromptu presentation displaying love for our sisterhood and service to our communities! This project was filling, impacting, and a great way to celebrate 109 years of service to the community.
Donations were contributed by sorors, friends and family, community members, and local authors. Utilizing the project management tools provided by Headquarters for this national initiative both chapters seamlessly collected and customized 411 books. Each book was sorted and labeled with love with a chapter identifying message affixed to the back cover.
These chapters are dedicated to Elevating The East and look forward to making this an annual event to support March of Dimes, one of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated’s Charitable Partners.
