The St. Croix Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., participated in Regional Day of Service on Saturday, March 26, 2022.

This year’s theme, “Power of the Purse” – Supporting Black Women Businesses  helped the chapter to encourage consumers to support black women-owned businesses in their local community.  Using the chapter’s Facebook page, they solicited a list of personal favorite black women-owned businesses. St. Croix Alumnae highlighted 15 black-owned women entrepreneurs and this initiative helped to stimulatemore than $7,000 in sales revenue.

Overall, this event created awareness of the power of the purse and reminded consumers that there is power in their decision to spend money. Business owners were excited to participate and appreciated the special focus on Black Women Entrepreneurs.

The types of industry ranged from Health and Beauty, Gas Station, Restaurant and Desert Pallor, Pharmaceutical, Health Care, Art Gallery and Clothing & Accessories.

St. Croix Alumnae Chapter managed all promotions (social media, print, broadcast, word-of-mouth) surrounding this activity, to promote consumer spending.  Consumers were invited to utilize the phrase “Power of the Purse” to indicate that they were supporting the establishment on behalf of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated and #powerofthepurse to share their photos.
